Description	:	Grace Alice Carolus, 99, of the Shell Rock Health Care Center and formerly of Waverly, died Saturday evening, March 24, 2018, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center of natural causes. Grace Alice Lageschulte was born on January 30, 1919, at her parent’s farm near Bremer, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Alice (Koenig) Lageschulte. She attended Warren #2 country school and then the Waverly High School, graduating in 1937. Read More	Grace Alice Carolus, 99, of the Shell Rock Health Care Center and formerly of Waverly, died Saturday evening, March 24, 2018, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center of natural causes. Grace Alice Lageschulte was born on January 30, 1919, at her parent’s farm near Bremer, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Alice (Koenig) Lageschulte. She attended Warren #2 country school and then the Waverly High School, graduating in 1937. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, where she received her Normal Training Teaching Certificate. Grace taught for 7 years in Bremer and Butler Counties. Grace was baptized, confirmed, and was active in the Warren Evangelical Church south of Bremer, where she was leader of the Mission Band, Co-leader of the Youth Fellowship, Sunday School Superintendent, and teacher from the Nursery Class up through the Adult Classes and was also a teacher for Vacation Bible School in the summer. She held several officer jobs in the Missionary Unit, and was District Officer for 4 years. Served on the Riverview Park Board of Control in Cedar Falls for 8 years and was a member of the Peppy Pals 4-H club and later became a leader of that same club. Grace was united in marriage to Harvey Carolus on July 30, 1944, while Harvey was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and stationed in Avon Park, Florida. After Harvey's discharge on February 25, 1946, the couple returned to Iowa, where they farmed in several locations in Bremer County before retiring in 1985. After moving into Waverly, Grace was grandma to the entire little neighborhood children - the best in town! Harvey and Grace became residents of The Meadows in Shell Rock on February 16, 2015. Grace was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly, where she was active with the Gideon’s International Auxiliary. She was local Chairperson and County Chairperson for Bremer County Farm Bureau Women, active in Red Cross work, American Legion Post #176 Auxiliary, Waverly Hospital Auxiliary, 60 and Growing, Walk and Talk Group and neighborhood activities. She enjoyed gardening, field work, cooking, puzzles, letter writing and visiting the elderly. Grace is survived by her loving husband, Harvey H. Carolus of Shell Rock, Iowa; two sons, Gordon Carolus (Dianne Nagen) of Waverly, Iowa, Duane (Martha) Carolus of Bellevue, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Lee) Lageschulte of Seattle, Washington; one sister, Evelyn Boyken of Mason City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Frances Lageschulte of Waverly. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wendell, Harold and Paul Lageschulte; sister, Ruth Smith; brothers-in-law Don Boyken and Dale Smith; sisters-in-law, Betty Lageschulte and Marcella Lageschulte; daughter-in-law, Joanne Carolus.
