Harold was born on March 16, 1921, in Warren Township, rural Waverly, Iowa, the son of Fred Anton and Alice Louise (Koenig) Lageschulte. Read More	Veteran of World War 2 Harold Edward "Harry" Lageschulte, 88, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, 2009, of natural causes. Harold was born on March 16, 1921, in Warren Township, rural Waverly, Iowa, the son of Fred Anton and Alice Louise (Koenig) Lageschulte. He was baptized and confirmed at Warren Evangelical Church rural Waverly. Harold attended Warren #2 country school and graduated from Waverly High School in 1939. On May 7, 1943, Harold was united in marriage to Marcella L. Wilson at the East Janesville Methodist Church. Harold was in the U.S Army and their wedding was the first war-time marriage at East Janesville. Harold served in the U.S. Army from September 1942 until June 1946. He was a T4 Seargent in the 74th General Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, and then moved to Nailsea, England, for two years, then to France. Following his discharge, the couple moved a small house to Marcella's parent's farm on the Bremer-Black Hawk County line. They farmed with the Wilson's for a short time and then Harold became an instructor for on-the-job training for the U.S. Government for three years. During this time Harold continued to farm in rural Janesville, until 1963, when he and his family moved to the family century farm in rural Waverly, where Harold continued farming until retiring in 1999. Harold and Marcella then moved into Waverly. In addition to farming, Harold worked for 10 years in the 1990's at Waverly Homes. Harold was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church, Waverly Farm Bureau, and Janesville American Legion Post #522, where Harold was the longest standing member. Harold was on the board of Bremwood in Waverly and was on the Bremer County Soybean Board of Directors. Harold is survived by his wife, Marcella of Waverly; his six children and their spouses, Margaret Lageschulte of Omaha, NE, Joseph (Denise) Lageschulte of Ida Grove, IA, Beth (David) Engelbrecht of Waverly, IA, Michelle (Kevin) Kolbeck of Santa Paula, CA, Jay (Donna) Lageschulte of Omaha, NE, and Fran (Bob) Catrair of Omaha, NE; 28 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace (Harvey) Carolus of Waverly, IA, Evelyn Boyken of Mason City, IA; one brother, Roger (Lee) Lageschulte of Seattle, WA. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a great granddaughter, Ella Jo Engelbrecht, two brothers, Wendell and Paul Lageschulte, one sister, Ruth Smith, and two brothers-in-law, Don Boyken and Dale Smith. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home in Waverly, with Pastor Kerrin Kirkpatrick officiating. Public visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until services at the funeral home. Following the services, Harold's body will be cremated per his request, and burial of his cremains will be held at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery in Janesville. Memorials may be directed to the family, where a memorial scholarship will be established at a later date.

Harry was a pretty special Grandpa. A proud farmer, his practicality was unsurpassed. He was always tinkering at something. Grandpa Harry loved a good, corny joke and got such a kick out of conversations with the grandkids.
