Description	:	Grace Peak was born on Sept. 22, 1918 in Yale, Okla. She was the fourth of six children born to Art and Ethel Shores Lawson. The family moved to eastern Nebraska by covered wagon when Grace was an infant. They moved to Perkins County in 1924. Grace attended rural school and later attended school in Madrid, Neb. She was the fourth of six children born to Art and Ethel Shores Lawson. The family moved to eastern Nebraska by covered wagon when Grace was an infant. They moved to Perkins County in 1924. Grace attended rural school and later attended school in Madrid, Neb. Grace was married to Bruce Peak on Feb. 6, 1935 in Grant, Neb. Three children were born to this union. Grace and Bruce lived on a farm in the Blanche community southwest of Elsie, Neb. until 1939 when they moved to Oregon where Bruce worked in a plywood mill. In 1944 they returned to Blanche where they took over the operation of the family farm. They lived on the farm until 1966 when they moved to Grant. They lived at the courthouse where Bruce worked as the custodian. They moved into their home in Grant in 1981. Grace was always an active person. She helped Bruce with the farm work and frequently assisted in cleaning at the courthouse. She worked at the Perkins County Community Hospital from 1966 until 1985 as a nurse's aide. She had been an active member of the Grant United Methodist Church. After Bruce died in 2010, Grace continued to maintain her home in Grant until she moved to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home because of failing health. She moved to the Imperial Manor in 2012 to be closer to her daughter. She died on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2013. She had reached the age of 95. In addition to her husband, Bruce, of 74 years, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Lawson and her four sisters, Goldie Jackson, Opal Ramsey, Lela Hutsell and Doris McGregor; one grandson, Dary Fitzpatrick; and one great-granddaughter, Rhiannon Peak. She is survived by one son, Carl and wife, Joyce Peak, of Castle Rock, Colo.; two daughters, Norma and husband, Seth, Fitzpatrick of Imperial and Verna and husband, Duane Stiverson, of Waukesha, Wisc.; seven grandchildren, Vance and Mike Peak, Teri Axlen, LaNae Schamberger, Garet Fitzpatrick, Todd and Scott Stiverson; 13 great-grandchildren; nephew and nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Oct. 16, 2013 at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Nora Mendyk officiating. Burial was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
