Read More	Relatives and friends in this community were shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the death of Miss Grace Palmer, who passed away at the hospital in Halstead, Kansas, Sunday, August 8. Miss Palmer was a native of this county and spent her early life near Fall River, Kansas. She was especially gifted in art and had made a marked success in her chosen calling. In recent years she had made her home in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she was art instructor at Madison College, but had many friends here, who knew and loved her for the fine attributes of heart and mind. Grace Margaret Palmer, daughter of Augustus A. Palmer and Margaret A. Palmer was born October 12, 1885 on the Palmer farm west of Fall River, Kansas and passed away August 8, 1943 at Halstead, Kansas. She received her elementary school work at District No. 44 Greenwood County, Kansas. The following four years she attended South Kansas Academy, after which she went to Washburn College, Topeka, Kansas, and was graduated. She also attended Emporia Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas, the University of Chicago, Illinois, and Columbia University in New York to study her choses subject of art and received her Masster's Degree there, she traveled extensively over North America and Eurepe. Miss Palmer has many years of teaching to her credit, her home rural school; La Salle, Illinois High School; a number of years in the State University at Moscow, Idaho; one year at Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas; several years at the University at Fayetteville, Arkansas. For the past fifteen years she has been employed as art instructor at Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was a member of the Sportswood Garden Club and the Harrisonburg Business and Professional Women's Club. Left to mourn her passing are her mother, Mrs. Margaret A. Palmer, who has lived with her for the past thirty years and who is now at Eureka, Kansas; two brothers, Dr. W.R. Palmer of Larence, Kansas, and A.O. Palmer of Kansas City, Missouri, ten nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was a sister of the late Mrs. T.O. Sears of Eureka. Funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Brodt was held from the Baird Funeral Home in Eureka Wednesday August 11, 1943. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. From Eureka Herald 12 August 1943 page 1.
