Lawson was born near Fairfield, Iowa, March 11, 1859, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Josiah Martin, north of Birmingham, March 23, 1917, aged 58 years and 13 days. He had been in very poor health for some time with Bright's disease, but was able to do some work. He and his brother George lived together northwest of town. On Friday morning he was in his usual health. His brother came home at noon and found him lying unconscious. He was at once taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Josiah Martin, and death claimed him the same evening at 8 o'clock. A father, a mother, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Martin of Fairfield; Mrs. John Ratcliffe of Muscatine, Iowa, and four brothers, Andrew of Libo, Missouri; Sam of Ottumwa; Joe of Alexandria, Louisiana, and George, with whom he made his home. The funeral service was held in the Presbyterian church at Birmingham, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Bock and interment in the cemetery east of town. Source: Van Buren Co. A father, mother and three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Martin of Fairfield, and Mrs. John Ratcliff of Muscatine; also four brothers--Andrew of Libo, Mo.; Sam of Ottumwa, Joe of Alexandria, La., and George with whom he made his home. Altho he had been in failing health for the past three years, yet his death came as an unexpected shock to his family and friends. Being in his usual health up to 11 o'clock, his brother returned home at noon and found him unconscious on the floor, and death claimed him at 8 o'clock. The funeral services were held in the Birmingham Presbyterian church Sunday morning at 11 conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Peter Bock, and interment was made in the Birmingham cemetery.
