Description	:	OBITUARY GREGORY EUGENE ILES Gregory Eugene Iles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Iles was born at Fort Dodge, Iowa, May 17, 1951, and passed quietly away on June 10, 1961 at Blank Memorial Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 10 years and 24 days. Read More	OBITUARY GREGORY EUGENE ILES Gregory Eugene Iles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Iles was born at Fort Dodge, Iowa, May 17, 1951, and passed quietly away on June 10, 1961 at Blank Memorial Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 10 years and 24 days. He attended the Stratford Community School, where in spite of his illness of six months, he completed his fourth year. He was an avid reader of books, especially those of American History. His interest continued in reading up to the final hours of his death. He was especially interested in visiting with older people and loved the great outdoors. While in the hospital he was more than a patient to the doctors and nurses, and a particular friend was the hospital policeman, who always stopped to chat with Gregory on his regular rounds. He was baptized in infancy in the Methodist faith at Calvary Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa, and attended the Sunday School regularly from the time he was three years of age, up until his health failed. He took the vows and became a member of Calvary Methodist Church prior to his passing away on May 30, 1961. On December 21, 1960 his condition was diagnosed as a rare type of leukemia. From that time until his death he spent much time in the hospital. Because those who loved him dearly, never told him that he was afflicted with this disease, Gregory had no fear and enjoyed a happy six months in spite of his illness. Services were held Tuesday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Methodist Church in Stratford with Rev. Robert Ruppert officiating. Pallbearers were four of Gregory's older friends, Roy Barquist, Homer Mellgren, Denver Nuckolls and Frank Bricker. Philip Berglund, soloist, sang two selections, "Fairest Lord Jesus" and "This Is My Father's World." Mrs. Norman Erickson was organist. Hanson Funeral Home of Stratford was in charge of arrangements, with burial in the Dayton Cemetery. Gregory will be greatly missed by his many friends and relatives. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Iles; one brother, Monte, two years old; his grandparents, Mrs. Grover Iles of Stratford and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tell of Dayton, besides many aunts, uncles and cousins.
