Description	:	Gregory Lloyd Bishop was born to Lloyd McKay and Nellie Beatty McKay, he was the oldest of three children of this marriage. When he was young he lived in several towns in Wyoming, Sundance, Wheatland and Glendo. Read More	Gregory Lloyd Bishop was born to Lloyd McKay and Nellie Beatty McKay, he was the oldest of three children of this marriage. When he was young he lived in several towns in Wyoming, Sundance, Wheatland and Glendo. In 1952 his mother remarried to Wilbur Bishop and the family lived in Rapid City, Greg attended many schools, General Beadle, Wilson and Annie Talent. In second grade his name was changed to Bishop. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1963. In the fall of 1963 he entered the United State Army, he was a clerk typist, and jeep driver. In 1964 he was transferred to Ft Lewis Washington and was there at the time of Cuban Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs. In May of 1964 Greg was transferred to FT Sill Oklahoma where he was in AIT and Nuclear weapons training and was an E-6. In June of 1964 he went to Korea, with CO A 6th battalion 80th Artillery, to Camp Knox South Korea, about five miles from the DMZ. In June of 1965 he took a ship home on 30 day leave and returned to FT Lewis Washington where he was SP/4/E4 and a company clerk. In August he got money from home and was with the 17th Field Hospital, in 1966 he was with the 35th Engineers serving as legal clerk Sp5/E5 and the end of his service in July of 1966 he was with the 33rd Engineering. He returned home in November of 1966. Greg went to work as a clerk at Piggly Wiggly in Baken Park in December of 1966, he was a member of a bowling team at that time. In the fall of 1967 he entered the School of Mines in theater and continued to work summers for Piggly Wiggly. In Sept of 1968 he entered Black Hills State College and worked as night manager of the Zipp Inn. He lived and worked in Phoenix AZ in 1970, in the fall of 1971 he returned to Black Hills State College as a Theater Technician. He was on summer vacation for College in June of 1971 when a flood hit Rapid City SD, his step father and his mother were going to work as night cleaners at Meadowwood Bowling Lanes when their car was hit by the wall of water and they both died. Greg and his half brother Ron went looking for them at the Mortuaries that were set up around town. He was administrator of their estate and it put a great strain on him as did the death of his mother. He never fully recovered from her death. In the fall of 1972 he went to work of Buckingham Wood Products in Rapid City and in Jan of 1973 went back to Black Hills State College. In Oct of 1973 he moved back to Rapid City and at one point lived with his brother Gary. In 1974 he went to work at the Imperial Hotel for Dr Kurlyas. He wrote bad checks to him and was arrested. In August of 1974 he went into the Marines, had 11 weeks of basic training in boot camp in San Diego CA. He returned to Rapid City to await orders in Dec of 1974. In January of 1975 he he went to Camp Pendleton CA as an E/2/7, he was in E Co 3rd Battalion Platoon 3102. In July of 1976 he was sent to Juneau Alaska, in August he was discharged. Greg stayed in San Clemente and San Diego for a time before going to Phoenix where he attended ASU for a little while. He made his way back to South Dakota in the Spring of 1977, worked for Midwestern Home, in the fall he went back to Black Hills State College and worked for Nash Finch, he came back to Rapid City, lived at the Lamplighter Hotel and worked at Roman's Ronda Vu. He began attending Black Hills State in 1981, taking accounting, using the GI Bill.In 1982 he graduated from Black Hills State College with a Associate of Arts degree and in May of 1983 with a BA in Science, he always said he had a degree in Accounting, so I assume he did. He also made the deans list in this last and rewarding college career. In Oct of 1983 he was working as night Auditor for Travel Lodge in Rapid City,he later worked for Sears selling contracts for services which he didn't like. Greg also worked for Collins Siding setting appointments until his mental state got him discharged. He sold magazines and set appointments for Rainbow Carpet Cleaning. By 1989 Greg was working summers at the Dog Track, and had applied for job with Millage Plus which he got at about the same time I married him on St Patricks Day 1990. We met at a Christian Singles group at First Methodist Church in Rapid City, and courted by going to tourist attractions around the hills. Greg was preceded in death by a brother Gary McKay Bishop. He has many relatives in the Piedmont area some of them knew and remembered him, as well as some people who attended one year at Piedmont grade school with him.
