Description	:	NELLIE BEATTY MCKAY BISHOP DIED IN THE RAPID CITY FLOOD Nellie Katherine Beatty Bishop was born 1 Oct 1922 in Piedmont SD to Frances G Beatty and Edith Nettie Braga. She graduated from Piedmont High School and went to Business College in MO. where she became a Certified Professional Secretary. Read More	NELLIE BEATTY MCKAY BISHOP DIED IN THE RAPID CITY FLOOD Nellie Katherine Beatty Bishop was born 1 Oct 1922 in Piedmont SD to Frances G Beatty and Edith Nettie Braga. She graduated from Piedmont High School and went to Business College in MO. where she became a Certified Professional Secretary. On 21 August1944, she married Lloyd McKay in Washington DC, and they lived in Wyoming until 1950, they were later divorced. On 24 Oct 1952 in Huron SD, Nellie married Wilbur Bishop. Nellie worked as a secretary for several businesses in Rapid City including Bober Seed and Feed, Rushmore State Bank, and Bangs, Butler & Foye. At the time of her death she and her husband were night cleaners for Meadow Wood Lanes in West Rapid . They lived in Robbinsdale where they would have been high and dry. But because they were working people who believed in going to work, they left home and drove to West Rapid, it is believed their car was hit by the wall of water when the spillway at Canyon Lake washed out. They were found in their car down stream from the bridge on West Main, on their route to Meadowwood Lanes. Survivors include Gregory L McKay (Bishop), Barbara Trieck, and Gary McKay (Bishop), Janene and Ron Bishop all of Rapid City. Also surviving is her mother Edith Beatty of Piedmont SD, Daniel Beatty of Manhatten KS, Frances Beatty CA, Barbara Owens Rapid City, and Stella Crowley CA. She was predeceased in 1926 by her father and by one sister Elvira Stoll in 1967. Graveside services were held with her husband Wilbur "Bill" Bishop, at Black Hills National Cemetery at 9:30 AM on Thursday .
