Read More	CRISFIELD WATERMAN SUCCUMBED TUESDAY Grover Cleveland Evans Died At Home On Cove Street FORMER RESIDENT OF SMITH'S ISLAND One of Crisfield's most highly respected citizens, Grover Cleveland Evans, was claimed by death early Tuesday morning of this week. Death occurred at his home on Cove street, this city, and was due to complications. The son of the late William Horace Evans and Mary Catherine Marsh Evans, both of prominent and pioneer Smith's Island families, Mr. Evans was fifty-seven years of age at his passing. The deceased was born at Smith's Island but moved to Crisfield when a youth of about twelve years of age. For about forty-five years he has been making his home in this city, where he has a legion of warm friends. Mr. Evans was a well-known waterman and had followed his chosen occupation, one with which he was greatly familiar and liked a great deal, virtually his entire life. He was a fine, upstanding Christian gentleman and was widely noted for his honesty and his integrity. Mr. Evans leaves a number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his passing and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family in their hour of deepest sorrow. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Martha Riggin Evans; five sons, Horace Evans, Carey Evans, Frank Evans, Wesley Evans and Riggin Evans, and one adopted son, Richard Burke, all whom reside in this city. A sister, Mrs. Laura Cook, of Crisfield, and three brothers, Carey Evans and Edward Evans, of this city, and John Evans, of Richmond. Va., also survive. At 2:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. R. Bicking, pastor of the Immanuel Methodist Church, and Rev. C. M. Elderdice, pastor of the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, from his late home on Cove street. Interment was in the Crisfield cemetery The Crisfield Times, June 21, 1940 pg.8
