Gussie May Petet, daughter of James L. and Martha L. Petet, was born March 6, 1887, near Sargent, Nebraska. She was married to Henry F. Eggers on February 12, 1907. They made their home in Custer County, Nebraska and lived a short time at Mitchell (Nebraska) before moving to the Bitterroot Vally in Montana in 1930. They made their home at Stevensville (Montana) in 1933; she moved to Hamilton (Montana) in 1973 and later lived with a daughter at Missoula. Gussie was very active with the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Woman's Relief Corps and Eagles Auxiliary, holding offices in each organization for many years. She was well-known in Bitterroot Valley as "Aunt Gussie." During her life, she complied many scrapbooks containing pictures and writing ups of servicemen leaving for war; these book are on display at the V.F.W. Hall in Hamilton, Montana. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967 and her oldest son, Alfred who died in May of 1977. She is survived by four sons, Donald Eggers of Santa Ana, California, Lewis of Darby, Montana, Stanley and James B. of Missoula, Montana; by 3 daughters, Helen Wadsworth of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, Lucy Dye of Missoula, Montana, and Maybelle Klontz of Tacoma, Washington; by 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; also by one sister, Nancy A. Turnbull of Caldwell Idaho, and by a number of nieces and nephews. The family suggests that memorial be made to the Lone Pine Cemetery Association in care of Dorothy Goodrich, Darby, Montana.
