Thompson, retired North Dakota state dairy inspector, were held Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Roland Martinson, intern pastor, and Rev. James Hanson, pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Valley City, officiating. Mr. Thompson died Thursday at Jamestown Hospital where he had been a patient since April 3. Pallbearers were Arlen and Lloyd Torgrimson, Gordon and Earl Anderson, Francis Lundby and Marvin Bystol. Burial was made in Highland Home Cemetery. Eddy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Relatives and friends from out of state attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Barton Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Fredericks, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Brodin, Mrs. George Swenson, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Simms, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schmidt; Mr. and Mrs. Arlen Torgrimson,; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Torgrimson, ; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Torgrimson, Mr. and Mrs. Sigfred Swenson; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Carlson and Mrs. Bernice Sauke; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Anderson and Arnold Anderson. Additional Information: Gustav Alvin Thompson was born 27 January 1899 to Norwegian immigrant parents, Halvor and Gunhild (Langlie) Thompson of Eagle Lake Township, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm not far not far from Ashby, Minnesota. He married Ruth Anderson in Cooperstown, North Dakota on 22 April 1928. Seven sons and two daughters were born to this union. Gust worked as a buttermaker and creamery manager. He finished out his career as a North Dakota state dairy inspector. He and Ruth lived in many different locations during their life together, moving often during the Depression years. These places include: Cooperstown, Finley, Cando, Enderline, Wimbledon, Larimore, Wing , Valley City, and finally, Jamestown, North Dakota. They also lived in Polson, Montana for a short time, and for a year on a farm near Alexandria, Minnesota. Gustav was survived by his wife, Ruth; His sons and daughter, Robert (Eleanor), James (Carol), Dale (Hannah), Duane (Betty), Larry, and Barton (Myrna), and Audrey; 11 grandchildren, his brother, Henry (Ella), and sisters Clara (Ted) Torgrimson and Lillie (Sigfred) Swenson. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Audrey; son, Kent; grandson, Jerry; and sisters , Tilla (Henry) Robertson and Hannah (Harold) Nordskog.
