Description	:	Gustav was the son of Gottleib Holstein and Caroline Kurs. He married Emma Marie Meinke on Oct. 20, 1904 in Crete, NE. They were the parents of six children: Louis (1906), August (1908), Walter (1900), Elsie, Elmer, and Edward. They were the parents of six children: Louis (1906), August (1908), Walter (1900), Elsie, Elmer, and Edward. April 28, 1944 - Carroll Times - Gustav Holstein, who had lived in Carroll for over 30 years passed away last night at 12 o'clock at his home at 1002 North Clark Street. Mr Holstein had been in failing health two months. He was brought home Friday night from the St. Anthony Hospital, where he had been a patient for five weeks. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home. Final arrangements for funeral services have not been made, awaiting word from a son, Cpl. Louis Holstein, at Camp Adair, Ore. Mr. Holstein, who was born in Germany Dec. 21, 1880 came to United States with his parents when he was seven years old. The family settled at Crete, Neb. which was Mr. Holstein's home for years. He was married there Oct. 20, 1904, to Miss Emma Marie Meinke, also of Crete. After leaving Nebraska Mr. and Mrs. Holstein lived at Arcadia for a short time before locating in Carroll. Mr. Holstein is survived by his six children: Cpl. Louis Holstein, Camp Adair, Ore.; Cpl August Holstein, who is in India; Walter Holstein, Eau Claire, MI; Mrs. Leo Berens (Elsie), Carroll; Elmer Holstein, seaman c/o USN, Detroit, Mich., and Edward Holstein, at home. He also leaves four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Dick Tapper of Albany, Ore. Holstein was baptized in the Lutheran faith.
