Mrs. Hallie Bestwick, wife of Thomas Bestwick, Jr., died at her home in this city Tuesday, of malignant cerebra spinal meningitis. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. J. S. Ford, and the remains were laid to rest in the Sabetha Cemetery. Mrs. Bestwick was sick but a few days, and alarming symptoms appeared early. Everything that medical skill could suggest was done, but the progress of the disease could not be arrested and was so rapid that little time was given for calling in outside physicians. Dr. Geiger, of St. Joe, was summoned Tuesday morning, but missed the train, and a council of Sabetha physicians was held. Dr. Geiger arrived on the evening train and after hearing the history of the case said he could have suggested nothing in addition to the treatment had he arrived before the death of the patient. Mrs. Mary Shoup and Miss Lena Hunzeker of Pawnee, and Gottlieb Hunzeker, of DuBois, sisters and brother of the deceased, arrived Tuesday in time to be recognized by their sister. - Republican -Herald.
