Read More	From the obituary of Mrs. Jane Ross (B.F.), Estelline Tribune June 29, 1902 . "GONE TO JOIN THE CITY THAT IS JUST UPON THE HILL." Departed this life June 13, 1902, Jane Ross, wife of B.F. Ross, aged 66 years. Jane Starks was born in Erie county N.Y. Sept 23, 1835. Here she spent her childhood and maidenhood years. On the 24th of October, 1854, she was untied in marriage to B.F. Ross. In the following spring they moved to Iowa, but hearing of the Eldorado in Minnesota, the year following, 1856, they moved thither and settled on a farm in Freeborn county. Freeborn county at that time was a wilderness not yet wholly vacated by the Indian. Many were the hardships those pioneers had to undergo, but they laughed at discouragement and overcame difficulties and carried light and sunshine into their little home. Here her five children were given her, and here for four long years she attended to the duties of the farm and those of the household while her husband was upholding his country's honor at the south. In 1883 accompanied by her husband, her mother, and three children, she followed her two married daughters to Brookings county, S.D. where she remained until her death. Her life has not been entirely free from sorrow. Her Brother gave his life for his county. In 1888 her aged mother was forced to go and in 1895 her son John departed for "that bourn from which no man returneth." But with the hope of a true Christian she looked forward beyond this vale of tears to the blessed promise of Christ, that we should all be united in that better land to be parted nevermore. While ready to step into the carriage to be driven to Estelline to attend the memorial exercises, she was stricken with paralysis from which she never recovered and on Jun 18, 1902, with her husband, her only sister and her children about her beside she quietly passed to that city where sorrow never enters, sickness is unknown, and friends are never parted. She leaves a husband, a sister, and four children to mourn her loss: Mrs. C. A. Horning of White; Mrs. N.A. Peugh of Estelline; Wm Ross at the old homestead and Mrs. Raymond Stretch of Ponoka, Canada. A loving wife and devoted mother has gone to her reward. Her desire in life was to make her home happy and to rear her children in the path way of right. She leaves a vacancy that cannot be filled. But to the mourning friends we would say, why mourn that such is fate? Can you not, as she, look beyond this vale of tears and can you not behold her standing at the Golden Gate waiting to welcome her loved ones as so often you have seen her standing in the doorway at the old homestead waiting to welcome her children on Thanksgiving morn? "Be still, sad hearts and cease repining, Behind the clouds is the sun still shining: Thy fate is the common fate of all, into each life some rain must fall: Some days must be dark and dreary." The funeral took place from the Baptist church in this place on Sunday forenoon at eleven o'clock, Rev W.J. Oldfield being the officiating clergyman. Geo. E. Hopkins was funeral director and the following members of the GAR acted as pall bearers: Wm. Parsons, Elijah Shaff, J. H. Dubois, G.W. Smith, E. Ladd, and Casper Norder. The choir was composed of Mr. and Mrs T.H. Jennings, D.E. Hopkins, Mrs. H.M. Elliott, Mrs. Wm Rice, and Miss Christene Monson, with Miss Lulu Dugger as organist. The high esteem in which she was held by the people was attested by the large number that attended.
