Same edition: Mrs. Alfred Disney and children of Oakland came down Tuesday to be in attendance at Mrs. Zirkle's funeral. **************************** The Richland Observer, 04 Feb 1904, Thursday OBITUARY Hannah Schaffer was born in Shenandoah county, Virginia, September 12, 1813, and died at her daughter's, Mrs. Leonard's, January 25, 1904. The funeral services were held in the Pleasant Hill church the 26th, conducted by the pastor. Interment was made in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. She was married to J. G. Zirkle in 1836. They came to Ohio in 1846 where they resided until 1869 when they moved to Kansas settling on the place northwest of town where she has since made her home. To them were born six children, two sons and four daughters, all of whom survive her, except one daughter. She also leaves one brother and one sister. She was converted when but a girl and joined the Lutheran church but about twelve years ago. She joined the United Brethren church at Pleasant Hill remaining a member until her death. Her faith was unshaken in Him whom she had followed during the long years of her life and the last few years she had been simply waiting the time of here "departure," which came in the early dawn of the morning probably while she was sleeping, no one knowing just the hour. She was a devoted mother, a kind, helpful neighbor and esteemed by all who knew her. The family have the sympathy of a host of friends. The things that were hid from waking eyes, Shine clear to the veiled sight; In the last deep sleep the Pilgrims rise To walk on the shores of light. Oh, sweet is the slumber wherewith the king Hath caused the weary to rest; For sleeping, they hear the angels sing, They lean on the Master's breast. A Friend. ****************************** The Kansas Farmer and Mail Breeze [Topeka], 06 Feb 1904, Saturday Mrs. Zirkle, an old settler of this community, was found dead in her bed Sunday morning, January 24. She was 94 years and 4 months of age. The remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
