He reports his section fairly prosperous, with democracy enjoying a transcendant (sic) boom. ************************** The Topeka Daily Commonwealth, 11 Feb 1886, Thursday FIFTY YEARS HAND IN HAND Sunday February 7, 1886 was celebrated as the Fiftieth anniversary of Jacob G. Zirkle and wife at their home in Monmouth township. On February 7, 1836, Jacob G. Zirkle was married to Hannah Shaffer in Shenandoah county, Va., where they continued to reside until 1846 when they removed the (sic) Champaign county, Ohio. In 1869 they again made a move, this time to Kansas. Locating in the Wakarusa valley, they were among the Dutch and democrats who at one time "it was feared "would take the Wakarusa." Of German ancestry an considerable of a Dutchman himself, uncle Jake was born a full fledged democrat and has never intentionally voted any other ticket. But Wakarusa would have been no worse off and would possibly have been a brighter and better stream if it had been "taken" by such "Dutch and democrats" as Uncle Jake. J. G. Zirkle was born in 1816. He was married in 1836. He moved to Ohio in 1846. He moved to Kansas in 1869. He has lived here 16 years, 16 miles from Topeka. There were born until them six children--two sons--William and Harvey, living on an adjoining farm to their father. One daughter died at 16 years of age. The oldest daughter still lives in Ohio. The youngest, now Mrs. A. A. Disney, lives in Brazoria county, Texas. They have thirty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren living. The number 6 seems to be a favorite in the dates and numbers of Uncle Jake's life. It is suggested that if the thirty grandchildren were equally divided into the five families there would be six in each, but this is upset by William Zirkle, who has eight boys, and all democrats. That Jacob G., and Hannah, his wife, may live to enjoy life six times six more years, is the wish of all his neighbors. R. **************************** The Topeka Daily Capital, 08 Sep 1900, Saturday MRS. ZIRKLE OBJECTS Mrs. Hannah Zirkle filed an action in the district court yesterday objecting to the report of Chas. M. Zirkle, executor of the will of the late Jacob G. Zirkle, deceased. Mrs. Zirkle was one of the heirs and alleges that all the costs of the administration of the estate, and all the taxes for the land had been taken out of her share of the legacy. She also objects to the allowance of $100 to Zirkle for alleged services, claiming it had never been properly presented or allowed by the Probate court.
