Pickett, wife of Vinson Pickett, died at the family home on East Jefferson street at 8:30 o'clock this morning of bronchial trouble, with which she has been suffering during the past fifteen weeks. Her death was not unexpected. In her death Tipton loses one of its good mothers, a women who tried to be a personal friend to all, and who during all her sickness expressed to her children and to those who cared for her, her implicit faith in her Master and her readiness to die. Mrs. Pickett, whose maiden name was Hannah C. Smith, was the daughter of Joseph and Huldah Smith, and was born in Preston county, W. Va., February 23, 1851, and came to Indiana with her parents in 1868 when she was 17 years old. One of the dates she kept as of special events was that of March 10, 1868, when they crossed the Ohio river in making the trip west. The family settled on a farm in the Mouldentown vicinity, but later bought the farm a mile and west of Jackson known as the Sovern farm. The parents died while living on this farm a few years later. February 1, 1872, she was united in marriage to Vinson Pickett of Jennings county and to their union twelve children were born, of whom five survive, with the husband; Mrs. Martha Wilhelm and Joseph Pickett, of Tipton; Luther Pickett, of Anderson; Mrs. Charles Grinstead, of Freetown; and John Pickett, of Fostoria, Ohio. All of the children have been at her bedside during her illness and at time of death. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Smith Soverns, near Jackson, and two brothers, Nathan Smith, of Tipton and Jason Smith, of Sharpsville. A brother, Jacob Smith, died at Noblesville New Year's day. Mr. and Mrs. Pickett moved to Tipton nine years ago last September and bought property on East Jefferson street. A few months before they moved to Tipton the husband suffered a paralytic stroke and was unable to see to the farm work. He has never entirely recovered and his faithful wife had been his devoted companion, during the years. She was a member of the Separate Baptist church and whan health permitted she attended the church services, her membership being with life Rock Prairie church. She was also a member of the Woman's Relief Corps of this city. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the church at Jackson and burial will be in the Goar cemetery nearby.
