Lorensen, of this city, passes away in a Sioux City hospital last Friday morning, February 21, 1919, where he had been taking treatment for anemia. He had been in failing health for a couple of years and had been treated with blood transfusions, but the best medical skill could not overcome his serious malady. Hannes Christ Lorensen was born November 29, 1868, at Rittdorf, Germany, and was there baptized in the Lutheran church at Brecklum. He was united in marriage with Henrietta Jurgenson, at Rittdorf in 1891, and this union was blessed with five sons—Carl, Hans, William, Theodore, and John. Carl, a soldier in the A.E.F. in France, died of pneumonia October 10, 1918, and John in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Lorensen came to America the same year they were married and settled in Union county, S. D., a few mile west of Akron. Later they resided near Alcester for seven years and near Beresford for three years. In the spring of 1917 they moved into the home they had bought in Akron, and this has since remained the family home. Mr. Lorensen passed away at the age of 50 years, 2 months, and 23 days. He was a kind husband and father and an accommodating neighbor, and he lived an industrious and upright life. His wife and children have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1:30 and at the German Lutheran church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. F. A. Meske conducted the service, and in connection there with also conducted a memorial service in honor of Private Carl Lorensen, who died October 10, 1918, while in the service of his country in France. A splendid tribute was paid to the memory of the young soldier by Rev. Meske. The services were largely attended by relatives and friends, some coming from Hawarden, Chatsworth and Merrill.
