While on his way to Miller Wednesday morning, Mr. Anderson of Wheaton township was drowned in the high waters of Wolf Creek. It is not known whether he attempted to cross a bridge and it gave way, or whether he tried to ford the creek, as there was no eye witness of the tragedy, but his cry for help was heard by a man not far away who hurried to the place where Anderson went under, but was unable to rescue him. Mr. Anderson was driving a team and wagon, and the horses were carried off their feet and drowned also, as the creek was so high and the current so swift that they were unable to do anything to save themselves. Help was summoned immediately, and an attempt was made to find the man's body, but at last reports this morning, the search had been unsuccessful. There is still considerable ice in the creek and the body is probably lodged underneath it. The bodies of the horses were found. The victim of this tragedy is a farmer living on the eastern edge of Wheaton township, and the accident is made doubly sad in that it throws seven children out in the world homeless, as the mother died about three years ago. April 7, 1910 ----------- The 1910 Census shows #2, son George as head of the household. (#1, Alma was not listed). The rest of the children were listed, with the youngest, being 8 years old. In addition, an UNCLE, Pete JOHNSON, was now living with them.
