Mrs. Dierks was born October , 1839, in Schleswig, Germany, and died March 31, 1920, at his home in Clinton, Iowa. He came to America with his parents when he was but 15 years of age. The family settled on a farm west of Lyons, a brother Peter Dierks residing on the old homestead. Hans Dierks was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a steadfast American, enlisting at the first call for troops in the Civil War. The morning he left he was married to Miss Anna Tietjens. Then he saddled his favorite riding horse and rode away to serve for three years in Company M, First Iowa Cavalry furnishing his entire equipment for this service to his country. After his return he settled on a farm eight miles west of Clinton. Here seven children were born, John, deceased, Anna who is Mrs. J. J. Ingwersen, H. G. Jr., Henry W. who resides on his father's homestead, Miss Emma at home and one daughter who died at the age of ten years. There are six grandchildren, L. D. Dierks of Moline, Waldo Dierks of Lake Park, DeEthel and Earl Ingwersen of Moline, Roland Ingwersen of west of town and Dorothy Dierks residing west of town. There are also four Great grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister. Mr. Dierks retired from active labors in 1896 and was known in town as in the country as a conscientious citizen, fond father and husband, a sterling home loving citizen.
