Description	:	Hans Heinrich Ernst Meier, known as "Henry", was born in #34 Hülshagen, district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony, Germany, the last of the six children of Johann Friedrich Meier and Engel Marie Eleonore Bartels. He was baptized there and, in 1884, confirmed; the home church was Maria Magdalene in Lauenhagen. In 1886 he and his next-older brother, William, immigrated to the United States. Read More	Hans Heinrich Ernst Meier, known as "Henry", was born in #34 Hülshagen, district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony, Germany, the last of the six children of Johann Friedrich Meier and Engel Marie Eleonore Bartels. He was baptized there and, in 1884, confirmed; the home church was Maria Magdalene in Lauenhagen. In 1886 he and his next-older brother, William, immigrated to the United States. Being the last-born, their prospects in Germany for owning land were dim, and the promise and lure of greater prosperity and enough land to support families helped them to decide to join other family and friends who had already made the trip. This included Henry's Aunt Sophie, who had come to America with her husband Fred Bartels in 1869. The siblings that Henry and William left behind in Germany were: 1. Sister Engel Marie Sophie (1853-1905), who married Wilhelm Wikening. She died at Sachsenhagen, not far from where she was born. 2. Brother Johann Friedrich (1858-1930), who married Engel Marie Seiger. He inherited the home place, and that is where he spent his life. 3. Brother Heinrich (1864-1947) who married Anna Heine. He died at Lüdersfeld. 4. Brother Johann Heinrich Gottlieb (1864-1947) who married Anna Sophie Dorothee Mensching. He died at Lauenhagen, the village which adjoins Hülshagen. Both William and Henry changed the spelling of their last name to Meyer. Henry married Marie Jordening at Zion Lutheran Church on March 4, 1897, and they remained faithful to the church to their deaths. They were the parents of six children: Paul (1897-1963, married Bertha Holtmeier; Rudolph (1900-1969, married Lena Haake); Herman (1902-1976, married Viola Haack); Hulda (1905-1990, married Harry Niederklein); Theodore, who died at the age of 3 days on 7 Aug 1908; & Gertrude (1911-1995, married Leonard Schafer). Also surviving him were 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
