Description	:	Harlan Eugene BROWN, age 66, of Winner, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2002 at his home. Harley, as he was known, was born November 29, 1936 near Ellston, Iowa in the same house, the same room and the same bed as his father. Read More	Harlan Eugene BROWN, age 66, of Winner, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2002 at his home. Harley, as he was known, was born November 29, 1936 near Ellston, Iowa in the same house, the same room and the same bed as his father. He was the son of Lawrence J. and Lois Elaine (CREVELING) BROWN. He was the fourth great grandson of Andrew Creveling, a Revolutionary War veteran. He attended grade school in Ellston and moved with his family to Wood, South Dakota in March of 1949. He graduated from Wood High School in 1955. He attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls and joined the U.S. Navy in January of 1956. He served one year at the 12th Naval District Headquarters in San Francisco, California, and one year aboard the USS Reaper, a minesweeper out of Long Beach, California. He began working for the State Highway Department in Winner, South Dakota in September of 1958 as a roadman and retired in July of 1994 as engineering supervisor. He was project engineer on most of the state highways built in in that area during those years. In October of 2002 he was inducted into the South Dakota Department of Transportation's Hall of Honor for his years of service and dedication to his work. He was married to Sharon ENGLE in 1967, and to this union one daughter Nancy was born. His granddaughter, Sophia Ivy, was born in 2000. He loved sharing life's wonders with her, from baby chicks at Country General to the road work on Highway 183. They spent time together nearly every day of Sophia's two years and shared a precious bond. He was a member of Elks Lodge #2084 for over 40 years and was Exalted Ruler during 1966 - 1967. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Winner and was active on the church boards. He loved working with the church youth and formed a special relationship with many of them over the years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, granddaughter, his mother Lois, and a sister all of Winner, South Dakota; a sister of Atwater, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law of Casper, Wyoming, Hoquiam, Washington and Pierre, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his brother Lee in 1961; his father Lawrence in 1991; and his son-in-law Kevin DEBUS in 1994. Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Winner. Harley was laid to rest in the Winner Cemetery, Winner, South Dakota.
