Description	:	Harlan M. Holscher was born August 15, 1920 on a farm north of Bertrand, Nebraska, the third of six children born to Henry & Lena (Jorges) Holscher and passed away February 23, 2012 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege at the age of 91 years. Harlan was baptized September 19, 1920 and confirmed May 20, 1934 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertrand. He attended school north of Bertrand. Holscher was born August 15, 1920 on a farm north of Bertrand, Nebraska, the third of six children born to Henry & Lena (Jorges) Holscher and passed away February 23, 2012 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege at the age of 91 years. Harlan was baptized September 19, 1920 and confirmed May 20, 1934 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertrand. He attended school north of Bertrand. Harlan worked for a number of farmers in the community. On June 6, 1942, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and saw combat in Italy with the 88th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged on September 15, 1945. On March 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Lucille Moline and to this union two children were born: Phyllis and Kenneth. Following their marriage they engaged in farming north of Bertrand and later north of Loomis, Nebraska. After retiring from farming in 1980, Harlan worked as maintenance supervisor for Christian Homes. Lucille passed away on May 23, 2011. Harlan was active as a volunteer at the Holdrege Senior Center. He was a 60 year member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church later transferring to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He was a member of the VFW in Bertrand and the American Legion in Loomis. Harlan also volunteered in many community capacities over the years including: Treasurer of the Bertrand Rural Fire Dept, Secretary to the Loomis Co-op Oil Co and served as Commander for the Loomis American Legion, Phelps County American Legion and the Bertrand V.F.W. Post. He was also the 1993-1994 Phelps County Swedish Days King. Harlan's hobbies were craft work, his yard and garden. Besides his parents and wife, Lucille, Harlan was preceded in death by: brothers: Louis and Ronald Holscher; sisters: Eunice Brell and Velma Haight. Harlan leaves to mourn his passing: children: Phyllis Johnson and her husband, Jay of Kearney, Nebraska, Kenneth Holscher and his wife, Diana of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren: Chris Johnson and his wife, Renee of Omaha, Nebraska, Asheley McVey and her husband, Paul of Lake St Louis, Missouri, John Holscher of Clarksville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren: Katie and Connor McVey; and three step-great-grandchildren: Ali, Katie and Josh; sister, Neva Danielson of Kearney; sister-in-law, Celesta Cox and her husband, Kenneth of Bertrand; brother-in-law, Robert Brell of Elwood, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends. Interment was in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege with Military Honors provided by the Loomis American Legion Post in conjunction with the U.S. Army National Guard Military Honors Team.
