Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, SD with Rev. Hans Sacrison officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD is entrusted with the arrangements. Harland Bublitz was born January 16, 1932 to William and Ida (Lemke) Bublitz on their farm in rural Altamont, SD. He attended country school until the 8th grade. Following his education, he worked as a farm hand until he joined the United States Navy where he served from 1951 to 1954. Harland then returned to farm near Altamont. He was united in marriage to Donna Walter on August 23, 1957 at St. John's Church in Altamont. Following their marriage they lived in Altamont where he worked for various farmers and Swift Meat Packing. He also worked installing telephone lines in Harriet, SD. Harland attended Lake Area Vo-tech in Watertown, SD where he graduated from the diesel mechanic program. Upon graduation, he began working at Beekman's in Clear Lake, SD and later at Codington County Equipment where he worked until his retirement at the age of 62. Harland passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 in the VA Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 28 days. His retirement was spent doing the things he enjoyed: playing cards, gardening and fishing. Harland spent 42 years on the Town Board of Altamont. He is survived by his wife Donna Bublitz; five children: Dale (Deb) Bublitz, Dean Bublitz, Dawn (Rodney) Stohr, Douglas (Robyn) Bublitz and David (Tammie) Bublitz; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lydia (Vince) Thompson, Lewiston, ID; three sisters-in-law: Marie Bublitz, Elorise Bublitz and Marlys Walter; one brother-in-law, Larry Walter and many nieces and nephews. Harland was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and five sisters.
