Description	:	Services held for longtime Akron mortician Harley C. Lewison, 84, Akron, died Wednesday (March 28, 1984) in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder funeral home. Pallbearers were Brian Eidem, Steve Lewison, Dave Eidem, Jim Gieske, Jay Eidem, Jeff Mertz, Arvin Finzen and Curt Lewison. Soloist Bill Jacobsen sang "Because He Lives", accompanied by Carol Harris at the organ. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art". Mr. Lewison was born Feb. 6, 1900, in Union county, South Dakota. He was a graduate of Akron high school, National Business School in Sioux City and the college of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, Mo. He married Bertha Ven of Elk Point on Nov. 30, 1921. He farmed for several years and then he and his wife operated the Lewison funeral home at Akron for many years. He and Vern Rossow operated the local ambulance service, on call 24 hours, day or night. Mr. Lewison became interested in being a mortician when he assisted his uncle, Frank Swanson in his mortuary. He acquired an Iowa and South Dakota license in 1937. He and his wife retired in 1964. They became interested and studied genealogy and visited the homes of their ancestors in Norway. Mr. Lewison compiled a complete Lewison family history. Mrs. Lewison died in June 1978. Mr. Lewison was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran church, a member of the church's first confirmation class and a former member of the church council. He served on the boards of the Akron school and rural schools. He was a former member of the Akron Commercial club and member and past president of the Akron Senior Citizens organization. Survivors include a son, Gil of Minnetonka, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Berline) Jacobsen of Sioux City and Mrs. Joe (Helen) Eidem of Westerford, Okla.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, Gilbert and Gena Lewison; foster parents, Frank and Betsy Swanson; two brothers, and one sister.
