Lewison, a resident of this community for many years, died at his home northwest of town, in Union County, S.D., on Thursday, December 12, 1935, aged 58 years, 3 months and 21 days. Eleven years ago he was stricken with paralysis, and although for a considerable period he was able to be about, his health continued to fail and he has been confined to his home much of the time the past few years. Gilbert Meyer Lewison was born in Union County, S.D., August 21, 1877. He was baptized and confirmed in the South St. Paul Lutheran Church. On May 3, 1899, he was united in marriage with Gena Johnson, and this union was blessed with three sons and one daughter: Harley Lewison and Mrs. Rozelle Finzen, of Akron; Gordon Lewison, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Curtis Lewison, of Akron, all of whom, with the widow, are left to mourn his departure. There are also 15 grandchildren and four brothers and two sisters, Lewis Lewison, of Elk Point, S.D.; Oscar Lewison, of Montana; Nelius Lewison, of Philip, S.D. Elvin Lewison, of Britt, Iowa; Mrs. Groethe, of Elk Point, S.D., and Mrs. Hagen, of Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Lewison has engaged in farming in this vicinity for many years. He was a man of sterling character and integrity, a devoted and kind husband and father, and a helpful and valued friend and neighbor, who will be widely missed and mourned. The community offers its sympathy to the bereaved family. There was a large attendance at the funeral Sunday afternoon. A short devotional service was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swanson at 1:45 and a duet was sung by Elaine Smikahl and Lulu Claassen. Services were conducted by Rev. C.W. Samuelson at 2 o'clock in Immanuel Lutheran Church, of which deceased was a member for many years. A quartet comprised of Dr. and Mrs. R.C. Smikahl, Elaine Smikahl and Axel Johnson sang several hymns. The pallbearers were Ed. Heeren, N.P. Nielson, Gottfred Davidson, Olof Hofstad, Harold Lunde and Emil Johnson.
