Visitation with the family present will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Warner on Sunday afternoon Nov. 20 from 3-5 p.m. Harley went to be with the Lord on November 17th at the age of eighty-nine years and three months. He was well cared for at Sanford Hospital for the two weeks preceding his death. He was able to enjoy his family all of this time, and it was only the last two days that he lapsed somewhat, but was still able to communicate with his wife, his children and the grandchildren; all of whom were able to be there. Harley Gerald Rieck was born on August 17,1922, to Chris and Anna (Brick) Rieck, on a farm in New Hope Township in Brown County. As a child he moved with his parents to various farms in the Warner/Mansfield area. In 1942 his parents purchased the Remde farm in New Hope Township, and Harley farmed with his father. On October 18, 1944, he married Jean Ryman at St. John Lutheran Church in Warner, and they established their home here. They later purchased the farm from his parents and lived there until they moved to a small acreage near Warner in 1987. After moving from the farm he did custom baling for a few years. He later worked for the local elevator during the busy spring and summer months. He made many friends during this time. In 2002 he and his wife left their small acreage, and moved into the town of Warner. These were also enjoyable years for him. He loved to work in the yard, and he finally had a yard small enough to be able to irrigate and control the weeds. With much assistance from neighbors, family and friends, he and Jean were able to maintain their home there until the fall of 2010. It was with great sadness that they left the area where they both had spent their entire lives to move to Sioux Falls. The sadness was mitigated by the fact that they had two daughters and sons-in-law there, as well as many of their grandchildren. Many of his friends visited him or phoned him after his move to Sioux Falls, both of which he thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed. He became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Warner in 1945, and remained an active member until after his move to Sioux Falls. Here he and Jean joined Our Savior's Lutheran Church, but because of his health he was unable to attend very regularly. However he was well served by them through his illness. Grateful for having shared Harley's life include his wife, Jean, of sixty-seven years, and three children, Tim (Terry) Rieck, of Mobridge. Anne (Dennis) McFarland and Beth (Bill) Sutton, both of Sioux Falls, and grandchildren Mark (Amy ) Rieck, Sioux Falls, Sara Rieck, Princeton MN, Seth Rieck (Becka) Sioux Falls, Elizabeth Deberg (Matt) Sioux Falls, Emily Rieck, Vermillion, John Sutton (Sheila), Langford, Sara Gray, Gig Harbor WA, Josh Sutton, Baltic, and three great grandchildren, Shelby, Evan and Charlie. Also surviving are sisters Mavis Eske and Joyce (Doug) Rogers both of Aberdeen and daughter-in-law Kay Atkins, Dix NE. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, his parents, by his sisters, Mildred ( in infancy), Evelyn Fox, by his brothers, Ervin, who was killed on Okinawa during World War II, and Raymond and his wife, Leona, Lester (Butch) Rieck and his wife Ruth and brother-in-law Melvin Eske
