Harley Gerhard Kruse was born on January 16, 1914, near Waco, Nebraska, to Herman Henry and Katherine (Ticken) Kruse. He had an eighth grade education. Harley was married to Edna Kathryn Naber on January 13, 1938, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Utica, Nebraska. He was a farmer, farming in the Waco and Beaver Crossing areas until retiring to York, NE, in 1989. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Waco, where he had been an Elder and Trustee and LLL member. They transferred to Faith Lutheran when moving to York. Harley and Edna celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on January 13th. He was a resident of Blackhawk Life Care Center in Lake View, Iowa, at the time of his death on July 23, 2005, having moved to Lake View to be near his only child, Gary and his family. Upon moving to Lake View they transferred their membership to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. Survivors include his wife Edna; son Gary and wife Myrna; four grandchildren: Jeff (Sherry) Kruse, Julie Kruse, Jerry Kruse and Della all of Lake View, and Jamie (Natalie) Kruse of Mansfield, WI; two step-granddaughters: Victoria Grafft of Colorado Springs, CO, and Krystal and Paige Busch of Springdale, AR; ten great-grandchildren: Nathan, Nicole, Noah, Nichelle Kruse, and Shawndra Kruse and Christopher Nelson, Elizabeth, Meredith, Jacob, and Michael Kruse; four step great-grandchildren: and five step-great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters: Sylvia Staehr of Lincoln, NE, Flora Stuhr of York, and June Stuhr of Waco; Faye Kruse of Lake View; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Harley was preceded in death by his parents and two step-grandsons, Rodney Obman in 1977, and Scott Auen in 1985.
