Harmonius is first seen at the age of 8, as Harman Harness, in the 1850 Census for Wabash, Darke County, Ohio, with his parents Gideon and Sarah Harness. Harmonius was a Civil War veteran, and I found this information on his Civil War service in the ancestry.com Civil War records: Enlisted as a Private on 13 August 1862 at the age of 20. Enlisted in Company E, 36th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 1 Sep 1862. Mustered Out Company E, 36th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 24 Aug 1865 at Devall's Bluff, AR. Source Citation: Side served: Union; State served: Iowa; Enlistment date: 13 Aug 1862. Birth Date: abt 1842 Sources: Roster & Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of Rebellion ------------------------------------------- Harmonious married Huldah J. Ashcraft on December 25, 1867, in Wapello County, Iowa. Although her name is spelled Huldah in the marriage record, I believe her first name was actually Mahulda. It looks as though Harmonious died shortly after their marriage. In the 1870 Census of Wapello County, Mahulda Harness is shown living in her mother Eliza Ashcraft's house with a son, Harmonious Harness, age 1 year. Mahulda was remarried on April 9, 1871, in Wapello County, to Andrew Hicks. Young Harmonious is shown in the 1880 Wapello County Census at the age of 11 as a step-son, in the A.J. Hicks house. He continued to be shown in that household in the Wapello County Census of 1885, at the age of 16. Harmonious married Leona Hampshire on June 18, 1889, using the name of Hiram. I have not been able to find anything further on him after that.
