Description	:	Harold A. Nichting, 56, Houghton, died of an apparent heart attack Thursday, Aug. 28, 1986, at the Burlington Medical Center. Mr. Nichting was born June 6, 1930, in Fort Madison and was a longtime resident of the Houghton area. He was a farmer by occupation. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Houghton and was a past president of the parish council. Nichting, 56, Houghton, died of an apparent heart attack Thursday, Aug. 28, 1986, at the Burlington Medical Center. Mr. Nichting was born June 6, 1930, in Fort Madison and was a longtime resident of the Houghton area. He was a farmer by occupation. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Houghton and was a past president of the parish council. He was also a past grand knight of the Houghton Council of Knights of Columbus and a member of the Synod Council of the Davenport diocese. he was a member of the Farm Bureau and served for a number of years as a Cedar Township Trustee. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. On May 8, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Madison, he married Marlene White, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Nunn and Mrs. Peter (Ann) James, both of Davneport, and Mrs. Gordon (Susan) Fedler, Donnellson; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Joan) Hunold, Montrose, Mrs. Alphonse (Barbara) Bentler, Mt. Hamill, and Mrs. Ronald (Clare) Anderson, Hudson, Iowa; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a bRother. His parents were Harry and Elizabeth Mertens Nichting. Funeral services were at St. John's Church Saturday at 10:30 a.m.. The Rev. Robert Striegel officiated. Burial was in St. John's cemetery. The body was at the Link Funeral Home in West Point where rosary was recied by the parish at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Knights of Columbus rosary was at 3:00 p.m. Friday.
