He was born Dec. 16, 1913, the son of Otis and Hattie Hartman Farthing. In the spring of 1929, Harold took a ride in an airplane, which began a life-long interest in flying. He retired as a district manager of Cessna Aircraft in 1976. On June 7, 1936, he married Mildred Horton. She survives. Other survivors include: daughters, Janet Murphy, and Marilyn Buchele; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
