He died July 30, 1995 at the age of 82 after an extended illness. Harold received his first 12 years of education in Holyoke and graduated with the Class of 1931. He then attended the University of Colorado and graduated in 1938 with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. He was then employed by the Corps of Engineers as a process engineer at the Ogden Ordinance Depots in Ogden, Utah. It was there that he met Marie Murray, who was employed by the Corps of Engineers as a secretary. They were married in September of 1942. To this union were born five children. During World War II, Harold transferred to the U.S. Naval Electronics Laboratory in San Diego, California. He was sent to the Arctic region aboard the U.S.S. Nereus on a secret mission. In 1947, Harold returned to Holyoke and went into farming and ranching with his dad and twin brother. After several years, he acquired a broker's license and became a registered representative with Waddell and Reed. He served for many years as an elder and deacon in the First Christian Church, continuing to attend faithfully as long as he was able. He was Past Master and earned a lifetime membership in Holyoke Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #81 and was a Shriner. He was also a member of Eastern Star and belonged to Elk's Lodge #2409 of Wray. He enjoyed S.U. football, traveling, dancing, elk hunting and tennis. He was instrumental in getting Holyoke's annual tennis tournament organized and served as its director for 13 years. Preceding him in death were his parents and sister Zelda Temple. Survivors include his wife Marie of the family home in Holyoke; children and spouses of Holyoke, Sterling, Castle Rock and Fort Collins; grandchildren; one great-grandson; twin brother Gerald of Williamsville, New York; sisters Glenda Stahl of Durango and a sister and husband of Yreka, California. Services were scheduled for Thursday, August 3, 1995 at the First Christian Church of Holyoke with Jim Mort officiating. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Obituary added Feb. 23, 2016.
