Read More	Harold Eugene Dowling March 13, 1944 ~ April 30, 2020 Harold Dowling passed through the gate of heaven on April 30, 2020, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Harold Eugene Dowling was born on March 13, 1944 in Akron, Iowa to Hugh and LaVerne (Anderson) Dowling. He grew up in the Akron area, was confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and graduated from Akron High School in 1962. In Harold’s years here on Earth he worked as a farmer, for Heyl Truck Lines, as a maintenance worker at the Akron Care Center, as a police officer for the city of Akron, and as a pressman at various print shops. Harold also served on the Akron Ambulance crew for sixteen years, set up the civil defense system, and was a storm watcher. He was also active in the Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher and attended early morning devotional breakfasts. Harold enjoyed visiting with people he knew and people he just met. He loved having coffee with his fellow coworkers and friends at the Akron Bowling Lanes after hours. He also loved Akron-Westfield football games and taking the ambulance there. Harold worked overtime mowing lawns, with his children’s help a lot of the time, and had many customers that sought his expertise. He took great pride in all of his work. He was devoted to his family. On August 31, 1991, Harold married Carole Lehmann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. They first lived in Akron, Iowa and later moved to Ramsey, Minnesota where Harold continued working in the printing business. When Carole told Harold that she was sitting on the kindergarten teacher's knee during the scary "Wizard of Oz" movie the whole class attended at the Norka theater, he replied, "I was on the other knee". Harold lived on an acreage where he planted an excess of 150 trees and shrubs which he meticulously maintained. He took pride in his park-like yard; although, he took time off from his chores to watch his beloved Vikings. He adorned his walls with more than 45 Viking’s caps and paraphernalia and also had a large display of model cars and trucks, including one from Heyl Truck Lines Inc. He was also a passionate Iowa Hawkeye fan. Harold attended Central Lutheran Church in Elk River, served at the Community Aid Elk River (CAER) food shelf, and gave blood in addition to helping at the blood drive. His neighbors and friends enjoyed chatting with him. He had a kindness, compassion, and sense of humor that drew children and adults alike. He is greatly missed. Those left to cherish Harold’s memories are his wife: Carole; his children, Julie (Keith) Swenson of Sibley, Iowa, Matt (Julie) Dowling of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sarah Liston and Rob of Ireton, Iowa; his former spouse, Sherry (Weyer) Olander (Joe); Carole’s children, Mark (Linda) Plueger of Supply, North Carolina, Chris (Barry) Fruzyna of Blaine, Minnesota, Kevin Plueger of Fridley, Minnesota, and Troy Marx of Ramsey, MInnesota; 15 grandchildren: Korbin Swenson, Erin Swenson, Kyle Dowling, Kori Dowling, Tayler Liston, Cali Liston, Carter Liston, Victoria (Nick) Maslosky, Allan Plueger, Sarah Fruzyna, Matthew Fruzyna, Miles Plueger, Joseph Plueger, Jessica Marx, Gavin Marx; one great granddaughter, Ariana Topete; brother Richard (Paula) Dowling; two sisters, Ramona (Dan) Liston and June Dowling; brother-in-law Dennis Bultman (Ruth); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and LaVerne Dowling; two brothers, John and Phil Dowling; and one sister, Ruth Ann Bultman (Denny).
