Description	:	Mrs. Harriett Catherine Allard died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Casey, near Grant, Saturday, October 15, 1910. Mrs. Allard had been in failing health for about a year and had a slight stroke of paralysis. She had been confined to her bed for about five weeks as the result of a fall. She was 86 years, 9 months, and 14 days old. Mrs. Allard was the mother of ten children, five of whom are living. The funeral was held Sunday at 2:00 o’clock from the M. E. Church at Grant. Interment was in Grant Cemetery. Villisca Review, Thursday, October 20, 1910, page 1 Harriet Catherine Allard was born January 26, 1824 in Swanton Falls, Franklin County, Vermont. She married David Allard on June 1, 1842 in Potton, Brome County, Quebec, Canada. Harriet lived out her life with her daughter, Mary Josephine Casey, in Grant, Iowa, after her husband, David Allard, died in Kansas in 1881. She passed away on Oct. 15th, 1910 and is buried in the Grant Cemetery. She was a member of the Methodist Church there. A diary entry by a granddaughter said, ``Grandma Allard never weighted over a 100 pounds and was a woman of wonderful fortitude and nerve.´´ (She would have to be, being married to David Allard.) She, too, was a pioneer, traveling from Vermont to Canada to New York to two places in Iowa, from one end of the state to the other. By what? Horse, covered wagon, river boat, and just plain walking. She had ten children and lived to be 86. She died October 15, 1910 in Montgomery County, Iowa and is buried in Grant, Old East/Milford Cemetery, Montgomery County, Iowa.
