In 1881 she and her parents came to Iowa, settling on a farm east of Stratford. She was baptized and confirmed in the Stratford Lutheran Church, of which church she remained a member all of her life. Read More	Stratford Courier February 3, 1949 Mrs. John Erickson Hattie Gustafson, oldest daughter of John and Matilda Gustafson, was born January 16, 1876 at Galesburg, Ill. In 1881 she and her parents came to Iowa, settling on a farm east of Stratford. She was baptized and confirmed in the Stratford Lutheran Church, of which church she remained a member all of her life. On May 23, 1900 she was united in marriage to John Erickson at Stratford. To this union five children were born. They lived on a farm south of Stratford, until 1937, when she and her husband moved to Stanhope, which since had been her home. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Crim, Monday morning, Jan. 24, 1949, at the age of 73 years and 7 days. She had been in failing health for some time, but was bedfast only seven days, death being caused by a stroke. Always a loving wife and mother, her home was her greatest joy. She liked people and always enjoyed visiting, retaining her love of humor until the end. She leaves to mourn, her husband, John Erickson, one son, Ernest Erickson, two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Mogensen of Stanhope and Mrs. Mildred Crim of Stratford; also six grandchildren, two brothers, Rudolph Gustafson of Stratford, Charley Gustafson of Des Moines, and a number of other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter, one son, one sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 26, 1949, at 1:30 o'clock in the Christian Church at Stanhope, conducted by the Rev. C.F. Schmidt. Songs for the services were sung by Mrs. Lester Carlson, with Mrs. Clarence Ober as accompanist. The title of the songs were, "Nearer My God to Thee," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." The flowers were in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Knight and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Lundquist. Following the services the remains were escorted to the South Marion Cemetery for interment. The casket bearers were nephews, Norman H. Erickson, Floyd Erickson, Elmer Erickson, Herbert Erickson, Virgil Erickson and George Erickson.
