Description	:	Harrison Edwin Murphy was born near Arcadia, Kansas in Crawford County, Sept. 1, 1888, to Nancy J. and John Murphy, and departed this life Dec. 17, 1957. He came to a farm east of Howard with his parents and three sisters in 1901 in a covered wagon. He grew to manhood in the Antioch community. He was united in marriage to Jane Myers, February 17, 1909, and to this union were born eight children. Read More	Harrison Edwin Murphy was born near Arcadia, Kansas in Crawford County, Sept. 1, 1888, to Nancy J. and John Murphy, and departed this life Dec. 17, 1957. He came to a farm east of Howard with his parents and three sisters in 1901 in a covered wagon. He grew to manhood in the Antioch community. He was united in marriage to Jane Myers, February 17, 1909, and to this union were born eight children. He moved to a farm eight miles northeast of Longton, where the four youngest children were born. He engaged in farming, wood sawing and selling wood, having a bad accident with the saw that almost cost him his life, which probably was the cause of his failing health. He later moved northweat of Elk Falls, where he was unable to farm. He then moved to his home in Howard in 1951, where he lived until the time of his death. He united with the Church of Christ in July 1921, and he was a faithful member, looking forward to Sunday when he could go to church services, long after he was physically unable to attend. He had been bedfast since last July, suffering much, but more patient than most would have been in his condition. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; one sister, Pearl Heater; a half-brother, Fred Murphy, who passed away just a month ago; also four grandchildren, Kenneth Eugene Stanley, Larry Joe Murphy, Dianne Joleen Lawson, who died in infancy, and little seven year old Joetta Lee Hull, who passed away in 1956. He leaves to mourn his passing his faithful wife, Jane; eight children, Elvin Murphy, Rozella Hale, Bonnie Hollien, Violet Lawson, all of Manhattan, KS; Gracie Newingham, Virgie Stanley and Archie Murphy, all of Eugene, OR; Harold Murphy of Elk Falls, KS; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one brother, Johnnie E. Murphy of Eureka, KS, one half sister, Viola Lund of Phoenix, AZ, three sisters, Lizzie Anderson, Mae Riggs, Levicy Hastings of Howard; a foster sister, Edith Davis of Winfield, KS and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Funeral services were held at the Moon Funeral Home in Howard, Friday, December 20th, at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Julius C. Nolan of the Church of Christ of Cedar Vale officiating. The casket bearers were Keith Taylor, Virgil Anderson, Glen Hastings, Wayne Hastings, Edwin Murphy and Emerald Riggs. Concluding services and burial were in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
