Read More	May 04, 2010 HARRY HUNSAKER Our husband, father, and grandfather, Harry Allan Hunsaker was called home to join his parents and brother in heaven on April 25, 2010. Harry was born on Nov. 5, 1926, in White Salmon, to parents Walter and Ricka Hunsaker. He was also a brother to John Walter, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. Harry attended school in White Salmon and went on to Washington State University in Pullman. While there, he was involved in the ROTC program, ultimately attending officer's candidate school in Fort Benning, Ga., and becoming a Lieutenant in the United States Army. He spent two years in Europe and then returned to Pullman and earned a business degree in 1949. He married Marjorie Callihan on May 12, 1950, in White Salmon. Soon after their wedding, he was recalled into the Army during the Korean War. Eventually Harry joined his father in the Hunsaker Chevrolet dealership in White Salmon, which they operated for 50 years. He was active in Boy Scouts, the American Legion, BPOE Elks, and ASTRP -- a group of men from WSU who served in the Army during WWII. He was a 10-year member of the Shepherds of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz. After leaving White Salmon in 1990 Harry and Marje lived in Vancouver, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and have spent the last 10 years in Surprise, Ariz. They enjoyed traveling in their retirement and were able to visit many places around the world, including Europe and the Orient. He loved to fish, and enjoyed salmon fishing along the Columbia, as well as fly fishing in Trout Lake and Husum. He also spent many hours chasing marlin along the Kona Coast. (yes, he finally caught one!) Harry was a huge sports fan and a lifetime Cougar. Some of his favorite times were spent in Pullman watching Cougar football. Luckily, he didn't care if they won or lost. He also enjoyed the NBA, first the Portland Trailblazers (he was there when they won the championship in 1977) and then in later years the Phoenix Suns. And then there was baseball...a lifelong love of the game started when John was old enough to start playing and continued through his last days. He particularly loved spring training and volunteered for the Sun Dancers group in Surprise, providing stadium assistance for the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. He loved it when the boys came down to see the Mariners in Peoria, and was a loyal Mariners fan and was particularly fond of trips to Safeco field. He always knew what time the ball game was on! Harry is survived by wife of nearly 60 years, Marje, their three children Terry (Don) McLemore of Jacksonville, AL., Anne (Rich) Thoreen of Federal Way, and John ( Julie) Hunsaker of Port Orchard, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at the United Methodist Church in White Salmon at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2010 Memorials can be made to the Columbia Alumni Association Caspe Fund, PO Box 974 White Salmon, Wash. 98672.
