Service are in charge of the Raymond Funeral Home. During his career as an attorney SMITH served his community well. He served as county attorney from 1942 to 1946. He was city attorney for a number of years and a charter member of the Fairfield Water Board. SMITH served on the Fairfield Board of Education and the Development Corporation of the Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a longtime member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and served on countless committees. His services were invaluable as a member of the planning committee for Fairfield's Centennial celebration in 1939. For SMITH, the month of June 1975 was a memorable time. During the month he observed 50 years of marriage and 50 years as a practicing attorney. He was also honored by his fellow attorneys for 50 years of service to the community. SMITH was born Jan. 21, 1902, in Fairfield, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. SMITH. After receiving his law degree, SMITH joined his father in the law profession. SMITH was married to Betty LINDAUER June 24, 1925. At that time they moved into the house at 204 W. Washington which remained their home until Mrs. SMITH died Aug. 15, 1982. Two sons and six grandchildren survive. They are Blair SMITH, Centralia, Mo., and Stuart SMITH, Des Moines. A brother Russell SMITH, Kimberling City, Mo., also survives.
