Lewis Died Suddenly Heart Trouble PASSED AWAY WHILE EMPLOYED AT McBURNEY'S COTTAGES MONDAY Harry H. Lewis died suddenly at the McBurney cottages on East Okoboji, about 10 o'clock Monday morning. He had gone to the McBurney cottages about 8 o'clock to do some work. Just before 10 o'clock Mrs. McBurney saw him fall but before a doctor arrived he had passed away. His death was due to heart trouble. Harry Lewis was a devoted husband and father and was loved among family, friends and townspeople for his unselfish and cheerful nature, His devotion to his work, his church, and his community. He was liked and respected by his co-workers, particularly on the railroad, which line of work he followed for about 30 years, for his eagerness and willingness to put his all into the task given him to perform. Harry Henry Lewis was born December 27, 1874, in New York State and passed away at Spirit Lake, June 26, 1939, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 29 days. At the age of seven he was taken into the protection of the New York Children's Aid Society, New York, N.Y. Later he was placed in the home of Thomas Williams near Ellsworth, Minn. After the death of Mrs. Thomas Williams, four years later, Harry Lewis work as a farm hand among various neighbors in that community. At the age of 25 he came to Spirit Lake, and two years later in 1901, was united in marriage to Abbie M. Stillwell. To this union were born three children; Mildred, now Mrs. H. Randolph of Estherville, Clarence S. of Cleveland, Ohio, and Harry Jr., who died in infancy. They took into their home when but a baby, Doris Ball, Now Mrs. Elmer Jacob of Estherville. For several years they had in their home a niece, Miss Ruth Bretweiser, and last year their grandson Lewis Christensen. After their marriage the Lewis' lived for about a year at Worthington, Minn., where Harry was employed by the Burlington Cedar Rapids and Northern Railroad Company. They then returned to Spirit Lake, where he has worked at various times for the Milwaukee Road, Rock Island Lines, and the United States Express Company. He also worked for a time at Arp Brothers and Carson's grocery stores; and in later years for the Rock Island at Clarion and Estherville, although maintaining his home in Spirit Lake. He retired from service in March, 1938, due to failing eyesight. Harry Lewis joined the Baptist church while at Worthington, later transferring membership in that Christian organization to Spirit Lake, where he was known to be true and faithful in his devotion. In his passing, Mr. Lewis leaves to mourn; His wife, two daughters, Mrs. Randolph and Mrs. Jacob, and a son, Clarence S., also eight grandchildren, five nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the First Baptist church here with the Rev. L. A. Miller, pastor, officiating.
