From Mr. W.D.Cook, of Osage towship, we learn the particulars of a sad accident which happened near his home on Saturday last. Mr. John Overly, a neighbor of Cook’s went to Beck’s saw mills, on Thunderbolt (Creek), for a load of lumber, and took his son Harry, a lad ten years of age, with him. Harry Overly (sic) Looses his life. From Mr. W.D.Cook, of Osage towship, we learn the particulars of a sad accident which happened near his home on Saturday last. Mr. John Overly, a neighbor of Cook’s went to Beck’s saw mills, on Thunderbolt (Creek), for a load of lumber, and took his son Harry, a lad ten years of age, with him. He loaded up his material, and started for home, the boy being seated on top of the lumber, near the middle of the wagon. They were within sight of home, when the wagon passed over a culvert, and gave a sudden jolt, throwing the lad off against the bank by the side of the road, and he fell backward under the hind wheel of the wagon, which crushed his skull and broke his neck, causing instant death. Mr. Overly was almost crazed when he beheld the lifeless form of his dear boy, who only a few moments before was in one of his jolliest and happiest moods. For some time he could do nothing but call for help. No one was within hearing distance, and his cries were vain. At last he took the bleeding corpse in his arms, and drove his team to Mr. Cook’s residence, where assistance was given him. This is one of the saddest accidents we have ever been called upon to chronicle. Imagine the feelings of the mother and sisters when the lifeless body of Harry, who a few hours before left them hopeful and happy, was brought to the house.
