PARSONS Last rites will be Tuesday afternoon for Harry R. Parsons, well known Jefferson county farmer who passed away early Sunday morning at his home four miles east of Fairfield. His death at 12:40 a.m. followed an illness of about a year. The service will be at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. C. R. Douglass officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Harry R. Parsons, 76, was a life-time resident of Jefferson county. He was born Jan. 11, 1875, the son of the late Robert E. and Melissia (sic) Griffiths Parsons. Prior to his marriage he was a prospecting engineer for the Sullivan Machinery company of Chicago. He was united in marriage to Henrietta Mollenauer on May 8, 1915 at Cannonsburg, Pa. The same year he took over his father's farm east of Fairfield and had made his home there since. He was well known for several years as a breeder of registered Jersey cattle, and was director of the Keosauqua Creamery. He also served at one time as president of the Buchanan township school board; was a member of the first County Testing association; member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau; was among the early users of commercial fertilizer and limestone and participated in the county conservation program. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert H. Parsons, and a daughter, Mrs. Isabelle (sic. Isabel) Bradfield, both of Fairfield; two grandchildren, Thomas Lee and Patricia Ellen Parsons; and a brother, Jesse E. Parsons, Vancouver, Canada. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Dee Parsons, who lost his life in World War II, three brothers and two sisters. ------------------- Note: Before Harry returned to the farm he grew up on and inherited from his father in 1915, he worked for the Sullivan Machinery Co. which had offices on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Sullivan was engaged in diamond core drilling doing prospecting contract work for numerous companies in the U.S. and Canada (see the photo of him in a horse-drawn carriage in Nova Scotia). Harry traveled extensively for 15 years, so when he married Etta in 1915 and inherited the family farm, it was felt he was ready to go back home, settle down and finally start a family, which he did.
