Berry, 64, an employee of the Clark Equipment Company for over 40 years until his retirement February 1, 1945, died in the St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, Indiana, at 1 a.m. Sunday, following a long illness. He was born June 17, 1881, in Cassopolis, MI, the son of Charles Thomas Berry and Lucetta Lofland. In young manhood he learned the trade of machinist and was employed several years in the old Lee & Porter Axle Plant here soon after 1900. He had gone to Three Oaks to work in the Warren Featherbone Plant when he received an offer to work at the George R. Rich Manufacturing Company, the first name for the concern now known as the Clark Equipment Company. He began work December 27, 1904, at the Buchanan plant, almost exactly a month after the plant had been moved here from Chicago. He remained during the rest of his life in the same line of the same department, the machining line of the Drill. He was foreman of the line when he finally resigned early last year. At that time he was the senior employee in point of service time on the rolls of the company. He married Eva Mead February 4, 1945. She died October 19, 1945. He is survived by the following: two daughters, Mrs. Charles Mills and Mrs. Burton Mills, both of Buchanan; by two sons, G. L. Berry of Lamarke, Texas, and Jack Berry of Kingsford Heights, Ind.; by one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Kies of Kalamazoo; by one brother, Frank Berry of Kalamazoo; by six grandchildren. Funeral Rites were held Tuesday at the Swem Funeral Home, with Rev. Melvin M. Martin Officiating. Burial was made in Oak Ridge. (Printed in Berrien County Record, 1946.)
