The nearly 91 year-old resident of Willow Township was doing business as usual Thursday morning but by evening his "cold" was bothering him and he was taken by the Bayard ambulance to St. Anthony hospital in Carroll. According to EMTA director Floyd O. Betts, Mr. Howe visited with the ambulance crew on the way to Carroll. However, later in the night his condition grew worse and he died. Born on the same farm where he lived all of his life, Mr. Howe was the son of Dan and Catherine Waters Howe. He was born November 4, 1886, and he would have been 91 Friday. After graduating from Bayard high school in 1906, Mr. Howe became a farmer and, except for 26 months spent in France during World War I, he followed the farming profession all his life. In all his long life he was never really sick and he maintained a beautiful sense of humor and a close relationship with his friends and neighbors. On June 26, 1946, Mr. Howe and Teresa Ehrhardt were .married. They continued to live on the farm north of Bayard and she survives him. He was one of seven children, all of whom preceded him in death with the exception of one sister, Rita (Mrs. Paul) Brutsche of Coon Rapids. Other sisters were Mrs. Henryette Murrane and Mrs. Mary Caraher and brothers were Joe, Paul and Willie, who died in infancy. Mr. Howe was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church at Bayard and he held memberships in World War I Vets at Jefferson and the Bryan-Mercer Post of the American Legion at Bayard. Mass of the Resurrection was prayed in the St. Patrick's Church Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the pastor, Fr. Richard Bergman in charge. Joseph P. Ewing served as organist and the casket was carried by Bob Burmeister, Jim Murrane, Edward Lyons, Elmer Lucht, Jim Ramaekers and Coral Greenfield. A prayer service was held at the Starling Funeral Home at 7:30 p m Friday and interment was made in the Willow Township Cemetery.
