RITA HOWE BRUTSCHE Rita, daughter of Daniel and Catherine Waters Howe, was born May 5, 1905 in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa. She was educated in the rural schools near her home and completed her education at St. Joseph's Academy in Des Moines, graduating with the class of 1922. On November 15, 1939 Rita was united in marriage with Paul F. Brutsche at St. Patrick's Church in Bayard. They settled on Paul's family farm near Coon Rapids. They made their home there together until Paul's death in 1986. Rita stayed on the farm after his death. She became ill on Thursday afternoon, May 9, 1991 and was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where she died suddenly and unexpectedly a short time later at the age of 86 years and 4 days. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; by her brothers: William, Joseph, Harry, and Paul Howe; and by her sisters: Henrietta Murrane, Mary Caraher, and Agnes Smith. Survivors include her son, Dan Brutsche and his wife, Nancy, of Coon Rapids; her grandchildren: Mary, Mike, Cathy, Joe, and Pat Brutsche; a sister-in-law, Pearl Brannan, of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rita was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Bayard and of the parish rosary society. She was an avid reader and made many friends playing bridge. Above all, Rita's family, especially her grandchildren, were important to her.
