He was a former Superior city attorney and served in the same capacity in Nelson for 30 years. Mr. Brubaker was born in Villisca, Iowa, December 24, 1877. After coming to Nebraska as a young man he taught school in Furnas and Franklin counties, and was superintendent of schools at Upland. In 1907 he graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law. He practiced law in Wilber (sic) for a year before moving to this county. At the time of his death he was legal counsel for the South Central Membership Association and deputy Nuckolls County attorney. Mr. Brubaker was a member of the official board of the First Presbyterian church (sic) here. He was affiliated with the Nelson Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M., a member of the Nebraska State and American Bar Associations, and a former member of the Nelson board of education. Surviving are his wife, Ruth, four daughters, Mrs. Charles B. Barrett of Hawaii, Mrs. W.B. McCoy of Austin, Tex., Mrs. Glenn E. Pickrel of Omaha and Mrs. Horace W. Shreck of San Francisco; two sons, Gordon of Palmerton, Pa., and Cecil S., present county attorney, two brothers, Guy of McCook, and George of Beaver City, and nine grandchildren. Services are to be held at 10 a.m. in the Presbyterian church with the Reverend R.L. Williams officiating. Burial is to be made in the Nelson cemetery (sic). The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, November 11, 1954 -------------------------------------------- Harvey Austin Brubaker, son of David Rider and Elizabeth Jane Brubaker, was born on a farm near Villisca, Ia., on Dec. 24, 1877, and departed this life at Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha, Nebr., on Nov. 10, 1954, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 17 days. When 12 years of age, he with his family traveled by covered wagon from Villisca to Hendley, Nebr., where his father had purchased a farm. After completing his elementary schooling, he attended Franklin Academy, graduating in 1901, and for a time taught school at Rockton Precinct school and Upland, Nebr. He entered the University of Nebraska College of Law and completed the four-year course in three years, graduating Order of Coif in 1907. Harvey A. Brubaker and Ruth Peck, of Franklin, Nebr., whom he met while attending Franklin Academy, were united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1906, at her home. To this union were born six children, four girls and two boys. After practicing law for one year in Wilbur, Nebr., Mr. Brubaker moved with his wife and eldest daughter to Superior, Nebr., where he associated with William F. Buck in the practice of law. Elected County Attorney in the year 1910, he subsequently moved his family to Nelson, Neb., where they have since resided. He held the office of Nuckolls County Attorney for 28 years, from 1911-17, 1919-27 and 1932-46, and served over 30 years as City Attorney. Since January of 1947, Mr. Brubaker has been in the active practice of law with his youngest son, Cecil S. Brubaker. Mr. Brubaker was a member of the official board of the First Presbyterian Church of Nelson for many years, was affiliated with the Nelson Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M., member of Tehama Temple Shrine, a member of the Nebraska State and American Bar Associations, and a former member of the Nelson Board of Education. Preceding him in death were his parents and two young brothers, Walter F. and Clyde E., all of whom had resided in Furnas County, Nebr. Surviving are his wife, Ruth, four daughter, Mrs. Charles B. (Elna) Barrett of Hawaii, Mrs. W.B. (Dale) McCoy of Austin, Tex., Mrs. Glenn E. (Beth) Pickrel of Omaha, and Mrs. Horace W. (Sheila) Shreck of San Francisco, two sons, D.
