Harvey Hugh Cox was born April 12, 1878, in Prairie Township, Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of W. John and Amanda Mahala (McFarlin) Cox. Harvey Hugh Cox was born April 12, 1878, in Prairie Township, Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of W. John and Amanda Mahala (McFarlin) Cox. The family moved to Salina, Kansas, in 1882, and then moved to McCook, Nebraska, in 1886. They returned to Poweshiek County, Iowa, in 1891. Mr. Cox married Amy Saunders in 1901. They were the parents of two daughters, Alice Cecily (Mrs. Robert Moren) of Freeport, Ill., and Bertha Grace (Mrs. Larry Sharp) of Milwaukee, Wisc. On Jan. 22, 1918, he married Elsie Watson who preceded him in death. They were the parents of two daughters, Lucille Velma and Nina Jane. Lucille (Mrs. Harry Ketels), her husband and a daughter died in an automobile accident in June, 1952. A surviving daughter, Carole, now Mrs. Wayne Tindle of Montezuma, was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Cox. Nina Jane, now Mrs. Herbert Groves of New Sharon, also survives. Other survivors are: a brother, Joy Cox of Grinnell; three sisters, Essie Sheehy, Los Angeles, Rosie White, Springville, Iowa, and Verda Hildebrand, Montezuma; three step-children, Francis Watson, Ottumwa, Lena Butcher, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ida Reynolds, Montezuma; also, eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
