CHURCH Mrs. Hattie LaVonnes Strait, for many years a resident of Villisca and vicinity, died here Monday shortly before 10 a.m. at the Dr. J. Clark Cooper Hospital rooms where she was brought last week end from the Greater Community Hospital in Creston. The body was taken to the Sutphen Funeral Home to await the funeral service which was held on Wednesday t 2:30 p.m. at the Advent Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Joe Tom Tate. Smyth, and interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery beside the husband of the deceased. Hattie La Vonnes James, daughter of William Harrison James and Barbara Ellen Strait was born near Books, October 2, 1877 and was 68 years old at her death on April 8, 1946. She spent most of her life in the Book’s vicinity until she and her family came to Villisca in 1920 to make their home. She was married December 24, 1902 to Charles Chester Strait and to them five children were born, on of whom, Myrtle died in infancy Those surviving are Chester, Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Iva Nash, Crown Point, New Mexico; Mrs. Irma Pearson, Los Angles, California, and Ivan, chief petty officer in the U.S.S. Cape Esperance, One brother, Lee James of north of Corning, and two grandchildren survive. Mrs. Strait was preceded in death by her husband, May 24, 1934.
