Mitchell, and the Rev. G. A. Arthur. Friends who served as pall bearers were Robert Marshall, Frank Thompson, C. A. Penwell, Harold Peters, Lewis Patton, and William Steward. Burial was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. Charles Chester Strait, the son of Joel V. and Elizabeth Schwartz Strait, was born February 8, 1863 in Medina County, Ohio. At the age of 9 years he came to Iowa with his father, settling in the vicinity of Lincoln Center in Adams County. He lived for many years in and near that neighborhood. On March 1884 he married Lily Bixler. His wife and two sos who were born to them, all died within a few years. On December 24, 1902, Mr. Strait married Hattie James. To this union were born five children. Chester, Myrtie, Iva, Irma, and Ivan, all of who survive him except Myrtie who died in infancy. The children all reside in Villisca. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Strait is survived by four half sisters, who are; Mrs. Linnie Stevenson, Mrs. J. M. Ritnour, Miss Nellie Strait, and Mrs. Lou Carothers. His brothers and sitters all preceded him in death. Mr. Strait and his family moved to Villisca in 1919 and he has resided here continuously since. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church in which he had held several offices. At his death he was elder of the local church. He died May 24th, 1934, at Villisca, Iowa, of heart disease, aged 71 years, 3 months. He had been confined to his home for a number of months. At the age of nine, he came to Iowa with his father, settling in the vicinity of Lincoln Center. He lived for many years in and about this vicinity. ln March. 1884, he married Lillie Bixter. His wife and the two boys who were born died within a few years. Mr. Strait married Hattie James on December24, 1902. To this union were born five children: Chester, Myrtle, Iva, Irma, and Ivan, all of whom survive him except Myrtle who died in infancy. Four half-sisters: Mrs. Linnia Stevenson, Mrs. J. M. Ritnour, Miss Nellie Strait and Mrs. Lou Carothers also survive. His brothers and sisters all preceded him in death. In 1919 he moved to Villisca where he has resided ever since.
