The 8th in a blended family of 10 siblings, she grew up attending the Divide Center Presbyterian Church and school. Read More	Hazel Gladys Hale was born on March 20, 1918 at her family farm home in Lyons, NE. to Edgar and Clara (Arnold) Hale. The 8th in a blended family of 10 siblings, she grew up attending the Divide Center Presbyterian Church and school. Upon graduation from Lyons High School in 1936, Hazel attended Wayne State Teachers College to get her teaching certificate and taught a one room school (grades 1 through 8) for two years. It was against the rules to be married while teaching, so she left her career and married Paul E. Christensen on October 4, 1941. They were married for 60 years before Paul's death in 2002. To this union 5 children were born: Norman, Ree Ann, Terri, Peggy and Marlin. The Christensen's started out in Omaha, NE. before moving back to Lyons in 1948. They moved to Fremont, Ne in the late 60's and finished raising their family. Hazel sewed for Pendleton Mills for a time but mostly kept busy baking and cooking for her family. At one time they sold her baking and fresh garden vegetables at a Farmer's Market and she would produce a dozen pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls and loaves of bread every week. She started a hobby of covering hangers with yarn and produced hundreds of hangers that are now spread across the county. In 1982 Paul and Hazel moved to Colorado Springs, CO. and managed Extra Closet Storage facility. They did such a good job the business was sold and they lost their position. In 1986 they moved to Anderson, SC. to a home on Lake Hartwell residing there until moving to Castle Rock, CO in 1999. Hazel moved into Cantril House Assisted Living in 2006 and there found a love for beading and making jewelry. She enjoyed her new home and found many new friends over the years. She liked to and "dance" and give readings to the residents. She was an avid reader and kept a list of all books she read but still read some more than once. And she loved jokes! She could tell a joke as good as anyone! People from all over would often send her jokes. She participated in the Red Hats Club at the House and would go to all of them if possible. And she loved her caregivers vey much. They were so good to her. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Paul, daughter Peggy in 2008 her parents and all her siblings. Survivors include her children, Norman (Lincoln, NE), Ree Ann (Bob) Benson (Castle Rock, CO), Terri (John) Geck (Greenville, SC) and Marlin (Yon)(Parker, CO), 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
