Read More	Pomeroy Herald July 2, 1931 Mrs. C. G. Krahm Ends Life By Gas (Fort Dodge Messenger) Mrs. C. G. Krahm, deputy city clerk for the past fifteen years, ended her life Monday afternoon by taking gas at her home in the Archer apartments. A nervous breakdown from which she had been suffering for the past two months is believed to have prompted her act. She was found shortly after 4:00 o'clock in the gas filled kitchen of her apartment by the apartment janitor who traced the strong odor of gas to her apartment door. The odor of gas had been apparent in the apartment building for some time before it was traced but was believed to come from a leaky gas burner in the basement which often gave trouble. Noticed Gas Fumes The janitor left the building around 2:30 and when he returned at 4:00 the gas fumes had increased so that he immediately began an investigation which led him to the door of the Krahm apartment. Finding the door locked, he used a pass key with which he is provided but this failed to open the door as it was bolted from the inside. He then forced the bolt and found Mrs. Krahm's body on the kitchen floor. The gas burners on the stove were turned, wide open and the door cracks had been filled to prevent the escape of the gas. The life saving squad from the Fort Dodge Gas & Electric company and the fire department were immediately summoned, in the hope that she could be revived. There was no sign of life when they began their work, her pulse having ceased to beat. After a half hour a flicker of pulse could be felt, but it was so faint that it gave slight hope. Worked 3 Hours For three hours, without ceasing, members of the two squads worked tirelessly applying artificial respiration in the hope of inducing normal breathing, but it was of no avail. Four tanks of oxygen were used, but they failed to bring any signs of returning life. Mrs. Krahm would have been thirty-nine years old in July. She was born in Dayton, Iowa, and had been a resident of Fort dodge since 1912. Before her marriage she was Miss Hazel Johnson. Besides her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. C. G. Kruchek, of Forest City, and two brothers, Harold Johnson, of Dayton, and Kenneth Johnson [Kruchek], of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternon at 2:30 from the Modern Funeral Home. Dr. W. O. Hariees of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery. Mrs. Krahm was formerly employed here in the Pomeroy State Bank as a stenographer and was married to Mr. Krahm while working here.
